Frida Kahlo: Appearances Can Be Deceiving

9D992359-3D72-4C21-BD08-9575CB4EE7C0There is a new Frida Kahlo exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum . As a member, I was able to check it out a day early. If possible, it always helps to be a member at the museums you frequent. 1) early access to cool exhibitions and 2) tickets even when the event has sold out to the public. Right now, the Kahlo exhibit tickets are sold out but members can get them.  Continue reading “Frida Kahlo: Appearances Can Be Deceiving”

Sampling Seattle

IMG_8631After snacking on some delicious and much needed McNuggets, we entered the Museum of Pop Culture (MoPop). There were some great exhibits, including the Jim Henson Experience. My childhood came to life and my dreams came true as I wandered around. Kermit, Bert and Ernie, and The Count; they were all there. You could even make your own movie with a muppet. It was heaven on earth.  Continue reading “Sampling Seattle”

Seattle Bound

At the end of June, I went on a family trip to Orcas Island, Washington. I flew into Seattle and spent about a week there before I joined the rest of my extended family. It was my first time visiting Seattle, and I love to experience new places. I have a cousin that loves it there; she visits all the time. She always says wonderful things about Seattle. I think she eventually wants to move there. After spending some time, I can safely say that I don’t have a need to go back again. I did enjoy the sights, but I felt it was more of a been there, done that situation.  Continue reading “Seattle Bound”

and so the end has come…

We had our last Thai breakfast and walked to the beach. It was beautiful. A nice view to end our trip. We packed up, checked out, and ordered a ride to the Patong Mall in Phuket. We stored our bags and wandered around. We did some shopping and had lunch. We found the food court and had lunch at an “American” style eatery. Again the Mai Tai was weird. We had tons of time to kill, because our flight wasn’t until after midnight. We decided on a movie. We watched Kong Skull island in English with Thai subtitles. Leaving Laos

Enjoying a very late morning, it was nice to sleep in. We had breakfast packed and took a shuttle to the airport. Afternoon flights are wonderful. Getting to the airport was easy, but inside the airport was not. It had a weird set up.  We waited on a security/passport control line, only to be told when we got to the front, we had to go check in downstairs. We found the appropriate line to be on and we waited. Continue reading “Leaving Laos”

Vientiane

IMG_6806We started off later than we wanted but enjoyed a simple breakfast at our hotel. We walked down the street to get to the corner where the tuk tuks wait. I saw several tuk tuks in both directions. I asked Denali which way he wanted to go, he said left and we started walking. Half way up the block he stopped and asked what we were doing. I told him looking for a tuk tuk. Continue reading “Vientiane”

Our Day in Chiang Rai

I’m sorry. I’m well behind finishing writing up this trip. There has been so much upheaval, and I’m just now getting back to this blog….

There is very little to do in Chiang Rai if you have already been to the white temple and the night bazaar. (Yes there are other temples, but at this point we were templed out. Although later I found out about the Blue temple. I’m a little upset I didn’t find anything about it when I was researching the trip.) Continue reading “Our Day in Chiang Rai”

What I actually packed

Here is a comprehensive list of what I’ve packed. When I return home, I will update with what was useful and what was not. To start off I will say I stuck to a color story to make it easier on myself. Burgundy/wine and a teal/turquoise are my main colors. I supplemented with grey and a few black pieces because, who am I kidding, black is my favorite thing to cover my body with. Back to the list…
